Step Count – Vietnam!

With Vietnam in the rear view mirror, it’s time to step back into the gauntlet aka the step count challenge. Japan was a close match however the final tally ended up going in Chris’ favor. The data was met with extreme controversy from Team Meg, who launched a vicious campaign against the integrity of Chris’ victory. She claimed that his victory was a result of him falling into a river or spending too much time perusing the beer aisles. There was even talk of collusion with Russian Fit Bit-ers. Chris says “Hey, steps are steps brother.” Let’s take a look at what the Vietnam data shows.

Quite a turn of events from Japan with Meg taking the Vietnam crown with almost 246,000 steps. Nearly 10,000 more steps than Chris. We reached out to Chris’ camp for comments. “I mean I think the clear reason for Meg’s win is the steps she takes. While we were trekking in Bac Ha, she was taking these little baby steps. I was taking HUGE steps up those mountains, like a boss. AND I had a backpack on the whole time. My damn back looked like I had jumped in a pool. I think that should count for 11,000 extra steps.” Meg dismisses these comments. “While trekking, I chose to walk with our local guide who was about a 4’5″ woman and took very small steps. Am I to be faulted for keeping our guide company? Chris’ reckless trekking lost him this race. I am extremely pleased with this win.”

The average steps had fallen from Japan’s average of 21,000 to about 17,200 in Vietnam. Both competitors cited a couple of reasons for the drop in average. Meg’s mom visited in Vietnam and they managed to fit in a relaxing beach day in Da Nang. Another reason was the Ha Long Bay cruise which had them settle onto a boat along with screaming children. One would think they’d have racked up the steps trying to get away from these kids but there just wasn’t enough room. However, the average mileage was still around 7.5 miles per day. That downward trend looks to continue as both Chris and Meg are spending their time in Laos relaxing and finding refuge from the blistering heat.

Meg pictured clearly taking advantage of the small step gain.

Stay tuned as the heat turns up on this Step Count competition.
